I must admit I am becoming obsessed with Marie Kondo and her tidying method. You might of seen my previous post about me using her method to tidy my books (click here to view post) Since watching the show on Netflix and tidying my clothes, books, papers and sentimental items I feel so much better, my room looks great but I wanted more! I am moving to a small flat soon, so wanted tips on how to get my kitchen in order, bathroom and other bits and bobs so that I can keep the new flat tidy.
I found Spark Joy on ibooks for £1.99 so purchased it straight away. Marie Kondo’s method is actually quite simple in the book she goes over it again and there are also cute illustrations on how to fold clothes and how to store shoes etc. Which is great for visual learners like myself.
Even though I have already used her method to tidy a lot of my things, I still read over the clothes, books and papers chapters just incase I missed anything important or she gave any extra tips.
For me, what I found most useful was her tips for storage especially in the kitchen and bathroom.
The book is laid out into small bitesized chapters so it is very quick to wizz through, I read all of it in just one afternoon.
I have not read her first book the Magical Art of Tidying Up but I don’t feel that I will need to, I assume both books cover the same things.
Her idea of sparking joy just really resonates with me and the book and tv show go hand in hand if you really want to tidy your things I suggest watching the show and reading her book. It has inspired me to get rid of 2 big bags of clothes, 40 books (and I NEVER get rid of my books) sort out my filing and paper work, even make my travelling scrap book. The photos of my scrap book have been sat in a bag for 3 years!!!! It also inspired me to get my dry cleaning done which has also been sat in a bag for a long time.
Marie and her method has also made me reflect on other things in life such as friendships. I have felt lately like a few friends have let me down or upset me and they are not sparking joy for me anymore so I have taken a step back from a few people so that I am only surrounded by people who bring me joy.
I know this book review is more how the book has helped and inspired me to tidy and sort lots of things out but it just goes to show her method works!!
Will you be trying the Marie Kondo method anytime soon? Don’t be scared to get rid of any books that no longer spark joy for you, if I can do it so can you! Katie x
