Monthly Wrap Up – December 2018

Hello everyone, as a new year is imminent I have decided to start a new blog feature. I have seen so many book bloggers writing up monthly wrap ups of what they have managed to read that month. So wanted to start doing this too. I have decided not just to add in what I am reading, but also any good brunches I have been to, movies/tv shows I have watched and anything fun or interesting that I think you would like to know about.

So welcome to the first wrap up, hope you all had a fabulous Christmas and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

December is a hard month to read lots of books. I have managed only three, but three really great books! I work full time over Christmas so I don’t get a lot of free time to relax and curl up with a book. I really loved Still Alice, I thought that was such an amazing yet sad novel. I’ve written book reviews already for these three, so if you click on the name of the novel it will take you to the reviews.

– One Day in December by Josie Silver

– Before I Go To Sleep by SJ Watson

– Still Alice by Lisa Genova

We only managed to go out for one brunch this month and that was a delicious Christmas meal at The Tudor Rose Tearooms in Plymouth. Click here for our full review.

– Bohemium Rapsedy

My dad is the biggest Queen fan so I have always grown up listening to Queen’s music. However I never really knew much about the band. This film focusses on Freddy Mercury, but also the band as a whole. It is amazing all the actors do such an incredible job playing the band and I found the film really mesmerising. Even if you aren’t a fan of Queen this is still a brilliant film to watch.

– A Star is Born

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this movie but my god, I loved it!!! Lady Gaga is so amazing, a fantastic actress, singer and so beautiful. Bradley Cooper is also really great. It’s the first time in forever I just sat and watched a whole film totally engrossed in it, not looking at my phone, really invested in the whole story and characters. It does have a sad ending but I didn’t cry. Was such a good movie and I highly recommend it!

– Fortitude Season 3
Myself and my boyfriend have been loving Fortitude so far, however this most recent season just got so bizarre. The story lines started but I didn’t feel they were concluded. It confused me and didn’t really feel like the other seasons. I was confused about certain characters being really out of the ordinary and unlike themselves. I just didn’t enjoy this 4 part series.

– Mortgage (adulting)
So this year I have been saving up and got a mortgage. I was very close to purchasing a flat but unfortunatly had to pull out because a survey showed too many structural problems with the property. I feel very down about this as I had my heart set on moving out this year. However if it wasn’t meant to be then it wasn’t meant to be. Hoping 2019 will be more successful in the property search. Getting a mortgage is very stressful.

– Homeless Shoebox Appeal
This year I wanted to do something for the homeless. This time of year can be very difficult for people who are unfortunatly on the streets, especially at Christmas time and when the weather turns bad. My work were collecting a shoebox appeal for the homeless. So I made my own box kitted out with wool socks, gloves, sweets, chocolates, torch, toothbrush and toothpaste, dried fruit and other little bits. Hoping that this will go to someone to make their Christmas just a little better. I hand wrote a card and put in a positive quote as well.

So there you have it my first monthly wrap up! I look forward to writing these every month. What have you read this month? Have you seen any good movies or tv shows I should know about? Hope you had a good Christmas and here’s to 2019! May it be full of fabulous books and joyous moments! Katie x

Happy New Year to you too ☺️

I heard the movie isn’t as good as the book, but I haven’t seen it to compare. Though now I know the plot twist I guess it will never be as good.

Oh it is sooo good especially season 1, its very odd but really awesome just season 3 got too weird for me 😂

    What a great article!

I have been seeing everywhere about One Day in December. Hoping to read that in 2019, I hear it’s really good.

I am so behind on movies these days being more of a TV Nerd now, LoL. I did though recently watch Manchester By the Sea. What an amazing film. I really want to see A Star is Born. Glad to hear it’s as good as I heard it was.

I am looking forward to all the tv shows returning after their mid-season finales. The Good Place is one of the shows I’m looking forward to the most especially after that last episode. Forever on Amazon was my favorite new show of 2018.

    Happy New Year!

Thank You! I wouldn’t say One Day In December is the best book I have ever read, I’m not massively into romance novels usually but this one just had a nice charm to it and also made me laugh so hope you enjoy it 🙂

I’ve not heard of Manchester by the Sea I will check that one out. A Star is Born was so good and I wasn’t even expecting to like it. Hope you get round to watching it soon!

I’ve not watched either of those shows, I am heavily into Gilmore Girls at the moment which has taken over my TV watching haha. Luther is back tonight for a new series so excited about that too!

Happy New Year hope 2019 is a good one for you ☺️☺️☺️

I actually just wrote about my favorite new tv dramas of 2018 and forever made my list. I can’t say enough good things about that show, it’s just perfect. If you’re looking for new shows to check out it might be helpful with all the endless options of what to watch on tv these days, LoL.

The Good Place is so perfect. Kristen Bell and Ted Danson are on it. Definite recommend!

I didn’t realize there was a new season to Luther. I still haven’t watched that series yet but hoping to eventually. I’ve heard it’s really good and that Ruth Wilson from The Affair is on the 1st Season.

I just got round to reading both your posts on the TV shows, I will definitely check some of them out especially YOU.

Yes it was a 4 part series. I didn’t enjoy it as much as the other series that have been out before actually. Yes Ruth Wilson is amazing in it, my boyfriend has a huge crush on her but I think she has strange lips haha!
