Five For Friday – Abracadabra

For this weeks Five for Friday I am sharing my favourite books which contain magic. Books about magic are probably my favourite fantasy genre, there is something just so special and wonderful about magic that makes me happy so I love reading about it in fiction.

1. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

This is my all time favourite book about magic. I have read it three times and would read it again. I would love to turn this into a screenplay for a film. It’s beautifully written, the story is clever, there’s twists & turns, action, love, drama and of course lots of magic!

2. The Winter Night Series by Katherine Arden

My favourite magical series and only 2 of the 3 books have been released. This haunting yet magical series follows Vasya finds out she has a magical gift but the people of her town do not like magic even when there is danger in the forrest. A bewitching and action packed series I can’t wait for book 3.

3. The Dark Gifts series

I have only read 2 out of the 3 books of this series so far but really enjoy it. These novels have a different take on magic. If you are not someone who can do magic you are sent to slums to work until you die. The ones with magic have power over everything; politics, weath and the people. But there is a rebelling brewing, people are unhappy and are ready to revolt.

4. The Ocean At The End Of The Lane by Neil Gaiman

This is the first Gaiman book I have read and I loved it. Very dark and full of creepy monsters. Follows an un-named boy who has his eyes opened to another world by his neighbour Lettie and her family full of magic. An eerie yet beautiful novel. Read my full review here.

5. Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling

How could I not mention HP when I have a list of great magical books. Amazing, brilliant, nostalgic and magical!

What books with magic in do you love? I would love to know as its a genre I adore. Thanks for reading. Katie x
