Serves 1

-Fillet or sirloin steak
– 3-4 Maris Piper  Potatoes
– Oil or fry light spray
– Mixed herbs
– Paprika
– Whatever veg you fancy

Method for Herby Potatoes:
Cut the potatoes into wedge shapes (half and half again)
Put them into boil for approx 8 minutes
Preheat the oven to 200 or 180 for fan
Drain the potatoes and give them a shake to fluff them up
Put a little oil or spray fry light onto a baking tray and place into the oven
Leave the potatoes on the side to dry for about 3-5 minutes
Take the tray out of the oven and put the potatoes evenly on
Sprinkle over the herbs and paprika and bake in the oven for approx 25-30 minutes

Method for Steak
I think there is a knack to cooking steak just right – this is for a medium rare steak

Take the steak out of the fridge and leave it on the side to get to room temperature for at least 30 minutes, rub a little oil and garlic (optional) into both sides.

Heat some oil or fry light in a pan until it is really hot.

Place the steak into the pan and cook for a minute on each side, and turn over and cook for a further 3-4 minutes on each side.

Take the steak out of the pan and rest on a plate for 5 minutes – resting the steak is important as this is where the juices come out.

Serve with the herby wedges and whatever veg you like – enjoy!

I have chosen the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. In essence, these novels are Big, Fat, Historical Fiction. There are now 9 books in the series and each one contains themes of history, warfare, medicine, sex, violence, spirituality, honor, betrayal, vengeance, hope and despair, relationships, the building and destruction of families and societies, time travel, moral ambiguity, swords, herbs, horses, gambling (with cards, dice, and lives), voyages of daring, journeys of both body and soul…A lot to take in! If you want a new meaty series to get reading this is the one for you. It has everything you want in it and it’ goooood!

We hope you enjoyed this weeks recipe and recommended read. Please show us any photos of any Sunday Sizzlers you choose to cook up, we would love to see your results! As always thanks for reading. Katie & Dee x
