Sunday Sizzler – Susie Salmon

This week for Sunday Sizzler we have a delicious salmon recipe for you and a book that’s all about a certain girl called Susie Salmon…

RECIPE FOR SALMON, TENDER STEM BROCCOLI & PASTA

Salmon and broccoli

Serves one

Ingredients:
Fillet of salmon
Tender stem broccoli
Dried or fresh pasta (enough for one person)
Cherry or plum tomatoes
Chestnut mushrooms
2 tbsp soft cheese (such as Philadelphia)
1 garlic clove
Dried Nutmeg and paprika
Schawartz fish shake or cajun shake

Method:
Preheat oven to 180

Rub the salmon with a tablespoon or either the fish or cajun shake, wrap in tin foil and bake in the oven for 20 minutes.

While the salmon is cooking chop up the mushrooms and tomatoes and garlic clove and fry lightly, adding the nutmeg and paprika to taste. Boil the pasta and when it is cooked add the mushrooms and tomatoes. Set this aside and either steam or lightly fry the tenderstem broccoli. Just before the salmon is cooked add the soft cheese to the pasta and stir over a low heat until warm. Plate up the pasta, putting the salmon and broccoli on the top, a perfect quick meal for fish lovers. If you don’t like fish why not try a chicken fillet instead?

WHO IS SUSIE SALMON?

The Lovely Bones is by Alice Sebold, Alice was inspired to write this fictional novel because she was raped as a teenager in college. If you haven’t read about it, her book Lucky One is all about this and you can see where she got her inspiration to write The Lovely Bones from.

The Lovely Bones is all about a fictional character called Susie Salmon, she is dead and giving her account of her murder from heaven. Susie was kidnapped, raped and killed by a neighbour on the street, the novel is about her watching her family from heaven whilst they try to grieve and desperately seek to find her killer. Susie cannot be in peace in heaven until her family finds the answers they search for. This book is beautifully written and although the concept is quite harrowing and hard to read Alice Sebold writes eloquently so as a reader you don’t feel distressed or upset.

We hope you try out Dee’s delicious recipe and enjoy the recommended read, let us know how you get on, send photos of your meals we would love to hear from you! Thanks for reading and we will be back next week for another Sunday Sizzler hope you enjoyed. Katie & Dee x
