Welcome to my Three Things for this week, I hope you enjoy it. This week I am focussing on friendships, as it is National Friendship Day on Monday 30th July. Friends are such an important thing in everyones lives so this post is just an appreciation for my friends and what they mean to me.
What is Three Things?…
Three Things was created by Paula’s at The Book Jotter. Her new idea is to regularly write three things she observes in the world around her which include:
3. Doing or Thinking
It’s just a great way for your followers to see what you have been up to in the week and mixes up what your normally post about. If you want to also take part or find out more about Paula’s idea please go to her blog
MY THREE THINGS FOR THIS WEEK ARE…
Reading – Quote
This quote means a lot to me as I have quite a few long distance friends who unfortunatly I do not get to see or even speak to that often. I have friends in Germany, New Zealand, Australia and at the other end of the country in the UK, due to time differences and busy lives it can be difficult to keep in contact. But I know all my friends however far and wide are there for me and I am there for them. With quite a few of my friends we do the “old school” thing of writing letters and sending small gifts which is lovely, some I chat to online and even my good friend Jaz from Austraila is coming to the UK to hang out with me in just a few weeks. Friends can be just as close to you in the heart even if they live a billion miles away.
Seeing – Finding Friendship in a Refugee Camp
I watched a UNICEF video the other day of two Syrian Refugees boys in a Refugee camp. Abdullah and Hikmat are best friends, Abdullah saw Hikmat struggling as he couldn’t push himself in his wheelchair over the muddy gravelly passages in the camp. Abdullah began pushing Hikmat around and they soon became close friends. Abdullah sticks up for his friend when he is being bullies, shares his phone and other luxuries and helps him out and about so they can explore together. I just thought it was a really sweet friendship story, even though the boys have clearly been through a lot in their short lives they have found solace with each other. Watch the video here.
Doing – The Midnight Walk
On Saturday I took part in the St Luke’s Midnight Walk, walking just over 13 miles. I walked with my good friend Amy who I do a lot of charity events with. To make conversation with someone for 4 hours straight may seem difficult but for me and Amy it was a breeze, chatting the entire way round the route. After about 7 miles my feet began to rub really badly in my shoes and started to become very sore and blistered. Without Amy’s support and encouragement not only would I have cried but I would have also given up. I may have limped the last 6 miles and struggled but Amy was so amazing with me and putting up with my moaning and limping, we made it to the finish line after 4 hours and I am so proud of us both. I have a fundraising page if you would like to sponsor me, it’s never to late to give to a good cause! Click here for the link.
So that’s my Three Things for this week. Don’t forget about Friendship Day on the 30th July, even if you just think about how much your friends mean to you or maybe tell them something nice! Hope you are all having good weeks. Thanks for reading. Katie x
