Happy Birthday Book Club!

Myself and Dee go to a local monthly book club in Plymouth called Regus Readers. I have been a member for about 2 and a half years and have really enjoyed it. Tonight is the Regus Reader’s third birthday so a very special book club was held!

We had loads of snacks and birthday cake. We also did out annual book-swap. Dee was very good and gave away 10x Books I embarrassingly only bought 1x with me as I had a clear out recently.

From the book-swap I picked up:

The Girls by Emma Cline

Not a book I have ever heard of but apparently it is really good and sounds really exciting and weird.

“Evie Boyd, sees a group of girls in the park, and is immediately caught by their freedom, their careless dress, their dangerous aura of abandon. Soon, Evie is in thrall to Suzanne, a mesmerizing older girl, and is drawn into the circle of a soon-to-be infamous cult and the man who is its charismatic leader. Hidden in the hills, their sprawling ranch is eerie and run down, but to Evie, it is exotic, thrilling, charged—a place where she feels desperate to be accepted. As she spends more time away from her mother and the rhythms of her daily life, and as her obsession with Suzanne intensifies, Evie does not realize she is coming closer and closer to unthinkable violence, and to that moment in a girl’s life when everything can go horribly wrong.”

This months book choice is…
So at book club we discussed the chosen book from last month which was Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. Everyone read it and enjoyed it which is unusual for book club. Then Ayesha, a member of book club bought in 4x novels that she loves and recommends.

Ayesha’s choices this month were:

Book Club voted to read:
For the third month in a row I have already read the novel. Slightly frustrating but I have so many books on my TBR it means I can catch up with that. So if you wanted to read my review of This Is Going to Hurt please click here!

Have you read this months book club choice? What did you think of it? Are any of you members of a book club? It’s such a great way to make friends, talk to like-minded people and eat lots of tasty snacks! Thanks for reading. Katie x

It was fun! Just a shame I have read this months book already 🙈 we normally do a book swap on the anniversary birthday then at Christmas. Its a nice way to get rid of some book you no longer want instead of chucking them out to charity 🤗📚
