I haven’t done a Top Tuesday in a while as I didn’t fancy a lot of the subject matter but I thought this one was good. I have chosen character names that really gave me a vivid picture of what that character was like with little description. I think a good name in a book really gives you a feel of what that characters personality and looks are like. So here’s my top ten favourite character names…

1. Hannibal Lecter – From the Thomas Harris Series.
What more could you want out of a name, Hannibal the Cannibal enough said.

2. Veruca Salt – From Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Roald Dahl had a way with character names and Veruca Salt is a brute. Verucas are seen as things you definitely do not want, they are annoying and irritating just like her.

3. Holly Golightly – From Truman Capote’s Breakfast at Tiffanys
I don’t really like this book at all, but Holly’s name is the perfect description of her as a character, she literally “goes lightly” she’s never settles, she’s very innocent and whimsical she vanishes without you noticing.

4. Ebenezer Scrooge – From Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol
A miserable, nasty and cold-hearted character. I just love his name and the fact that we use it in everyday use now. If someone doesn’t like Christmas we say Bah Humbug and call them a Scrooge. Very powerful name for a fantastic character in literature.

5. Severus Snape – From J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter Series
He may not be all that bad in the end but his name says it all, a snakey, nasty, slimy, untrustworthy man who pops up at just the right moment. I adore Snape as a character and his name is just perfect. 

6. Lisbeth Salander – From the series by Stieg Larsson
Just love this name, she is such a cool character, feisty, unpredictable and strong.

7. Piggy – From The Lord of the Flies
I literally hated this book it was so dull. However I can’t deny that piggy’s name was perfect, a chubby boy with poor eyesight what else would you call him?

8. Jane Eyre – From Charlotte Bronte’s novel.
A dull plan name for such a “dull” character. Jane Eyre is probably one of my favourite female characters in literary of all time. I also love her name and it suits her so perfectly.

9. Lyra Belacqua – From Phillip Pullman’s Dark Materials
I LOVE this name! Its beautiful, lyrical, and she is one of my favourite characters in the YA genre.

10. Atticus Finch – From Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird
The lawyer and moral hero of the novel, I just adore his name I think it’s really cool.
