The Spring Clean Book Challenge

The sun is shining, the birds are tweeting, my hayfever has started… Spring is in the air and what better way to embrace Spring, than to have a spring clean! I think most book lovers with a hefty collection always end up having a few unwanted novels lying around collecting dust. Maybe a book you won’t read a second time or something that you have had for years and still haven’t picked up. I think we are all guilty of this and for some reason cling onto them “just in case” we do read them but its time to let those books go…

Have a good old Spring Clean and give your unwanted books a new home.
As a little challenge, go through your collection and find some books you know you probably won’t read, it might be one, two or even ten books that’s up to you.

Send them to a new home and let your unwanted books be loved again.

1. Post a book to a friend as a surprise, make their day

2. Leave a book on a bus in a café or park bench with a little note, a random act of kindness is always nice!

3. Give some to your local charity shop, your unwanted book could be someone’s gem

4.  Have a book swap with some friends or family

5. Shout it out on social media, maybe a Spring Clean Giveaway?

So I have had a rummage through my bookshelf. It is difficult to part with any book but I have found 4x books to give new homes to, it does feel nice having a spring clean and reasoning with yourself what books stay and what books go.

Book: White Teeth by Zadie Smith
New Home:
Charity Shop
I was inspired to read this novel because over the years of cheap book buying, I saw it so many times in a variety of charity shops, I feel like it should go back to its charity shop home now, as I really didn’t enjoy this book at all. You can read my review of white teeth here

Book: Funny Girl by Nick Hornby
New Home: To Dee (the other half of Brunching Bookworms)
I love Nick Hornby books but this one was not for me. Dee who is the other half of Brunching Bookworms (she mainly uploads on our Insta account @brunchingbookworms) has asked to have Funny Girl. I hope she enjoys it a lot more than what I did!  You can read my review of Funny Girl here.

Book: Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger
New Home: Sent to a friend
I got this book for my mum ages ago as a present, we both liked The Time Travellers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger so thought this book would be just as good. My mum obviously read it first, she said it was really bad, it’s been sat on my shelf ever since and because of her negative opinion I’ve never bothered picking it up. I have a friend who I think would enjoy this book so I have sent it in the post to her as a surprise.

Book: Breakfast at Tiffany’s by Truman Capote
New Home: Book Club
Reason: I was disappointed with this book, I didn’t realise it was a collection of short stories I assumed the entire novel was Breakfast at Tiffany’s. I actually enjoyed the film a lot more than the book so have decided to take this along to my book club as well to see if anyone else would like to read it.

I hope you take part in my little challenge, please let me know what books you parted with and the creative ways you gave them a new home, get in touch I would love to hear from you! Katie x

Hahaha oh no! How do you have the room for them all?! I’m the same though half of my TBR pile is books from friends they no longer wanted! I’ve tried to hoard less this year so giving away 4 is a good achievement. Maybe its time you did have a little spring clean? 😆
